Writing tutoring that finds the voice.

Strong writing is the most portable skill we can teach. It travels into every subject, every test, and every application. Our UCLA tutors come from English, History, and Humanities programs and they teach writing the way a writer thinks.

The students we tend to do best with.

Right for middle and high school essay-class students, AP English Language and Literature students, students writing college application essays, and ISEE or SSAT essay prep.

Four things every Writing engagement includes.

01

Structure before sentences

Most struggling essays struggle at the outline. We coach a clear thesis and a clean argument before we touch sentence-level edits.

02

Editing as a separate skill

Writing and editing are different muscles. We teach both, and we show students how to edit their own work without losing the voice.

03

College application essays

Senior fall sessions focus on the personal statement and the supplements. We do not write the essay. We help your student write the essay they should be writing.

04

AP English exam prep

We coach the synthesis, rhetorical analysis, and argument essays on a tested structure that scores in the 6 to 9 range with practice.

A plan you can read in a paragraph.

Writing improves slowly, in small steady gains. We hold the same time every week and read your student's drafts as they go.

Writing questions families ask.

When should we start college application essays?+
Late June or early July is ideal. Brainstorming alone is two or three sessions, the personal statement is four to six drafts, and the supplements pile up fast in September.
Will the tutor write the essay?+
No. We coach the structure, ask the questions that surface the real story, and edit at the sentence level. The voice has to be the student's, and admissions readers can tell.
